About

Hi There,Paper Bag Head-crop

My name’s Dave and I created this blog to post some of my photographs. I’ve been shooting since May 2009 and have graduated from a little Panasonic point & shoot to a Canon T2i DSLR. Since purchasing it in March 2010 I’ve learned a lot and have really enjoyed the experience. I’ve been published in a couple of magazines and have won and been runner up in a couple of contests. As for goals around photography I’d rather not say because I don’t want to jinx it. Time will tell.

In case you’re interested, I’m in my 40s and live alone in east Toronto, just outside of the Beaches. As much as I enjoy taking photos, I can’t stand photos of myself.

My Gear: Canon T2i / 550D 18mp DSLR camera and battery grip, a Tamron 17-55mm F2.8 lens and a Canon 55-250 F4-5.6 zoom lens. I’m no longer shooting with the old Panasonic — she will be missed.

So that’s it for now. Comments are always encouraged and welcomed. Enjoy.

nice blog, Dave. Photography is magic, and I am also very keen on it 🙂
Keep up the good work, and enjoy sharing your pictures.
It’s amazing how we all see this beautiful world – everyone in his/her own way, that is truly enjoyable.

After looking at your work, I recommend that you move forward with photography and think your idea of taking a class is a good one. I have definately benefited from classes! I can see that you have the eye for a good shot, understanding of the frame, and a true interest in photography. I think you should definately continue on!

That’s very generous of you to say, thanks! I find that around here most of the courses require that you own a dSLR, which I don’t yet. I’m thinking of buying one in the near future, with taking a course to follow. Right now I’m reading books and checking out web sites and trying to learn all I can. The main thing for me is I’m having a great time with my new hobby. Thanks again for popping by and checking out my blog. Y’all come back now, hear!

How about that, another Canuck. I spent a month in Ottawa on business about four years ago. Unfortunately, it was one of the coldest months so I didn’t get out much. Plus, I wasn’t into photography back then. I have friends up there and plan to visit this year when I get a good camera. Thanks for popping by. Hope you come around again. I’ll check out your blog later.

judging from some of your photos…it won’t matter if your camera is “good” or not…you have a great eye for composing your shots!
In the summer, there are TONS of great pictures to be had here in Ottawa 🙂

hi, Dave – did i tell you i like your header photo? is that new? i don’t remember seeing it before! hope you’re well.

    • davecandoit says:

Thanks, Y. I typically change up my header every couple of weeks to a month. I’ve created a few dozen of them by cropping my photos to the appropriate width/height and then saving them in a “blog header” folder. My new blog, which is ready to go but not launched yet, has no header photo, so I’m going to miss that.

I bought a T1i in November…didn’t realize there was a T2i coming out. Still loving the camera alot though. My first DSLR. I’ve never had a nice digital camera. Got through my Photography classes in College on a 1973 Canon FTb. Just started a wordpress. Will be updating it lots with anything under the sun…but there will surely be a lot of photography as I’ve just started a 365 project. Photo a day! http://prafeston.wordpress.com

    • davecandoit says:

Thanks for popping by. I checked out your blog too. Looks like you’re off to a good start. I’d considered the T1i when it first came out but was actually holding off for Nikon to update it’s D90 camera. I love my T2i but I’m now sort of wishing I’d gone with the 7D. Best of luck with your 365 project.
