45 years ago tomorrow our Parliament, under Prime Minister Lester Pearson, and after much heated debate, approved a newly designed Canadian flag. The red maple leaf design is credited to George F. G. Stanley and John Matheson. It replaced the Union Jack, which had been in place since the late 1890s. The new flag first appeared three months later on February 15th, 1965, a date we now celebrate as National Flag of Canada Day. Feel free to send me an expensive gift, if you like. 😉 As for the photo, it’s from the Distillery District and since it’s topped with our lovely flag I thought I’d post it today.
